5 Simple Ways to Stay Committed to Your Weight Loss Journey When Life Gets Hectic

Life gets hectic. 

We all know this, and experience it. 

There will be moments when your weight loss journey is easy to attain. 

You will reach your weekly workout goals, and meal prep Sunday is an easy ritual. 

I love these moments in my journey because it feels as though everything flows perfectly and I’m on top of the fitness world. 

But, what about the moments when life gets crazy?

What happens when your usual schedule gets thrown off more than you’d like?

Do you give up and throw in the towel?

Here are 5 things to incorporate into your busy schedule as a way to ensure your journey remains a priority.  

1. The Early Bird Gets the WOrm

When life gets hectic, your exercise schedule shouldn’t (and doesn’t have to) take a back seat. 

Although, it may seem counterintuitive, exercising during the busyness of life will limit and help with stress. 

A good way to ensure you don’t neglect moving your body consistently, is to get your workout done first thing in the morning. 

You may not be a morning person, but several articles suggest that people who exercise first thing in the morning are more likely to stay consistent with their goal. 

Being an early bird may take a bit of a sacrifice, but once life simmers down, you’ll be thankful you made it.

2. Meal Prep

We all know that the key component to weight loss and good overall health is what we put into our bodies. 

What we choose to eat in the midst of a hectic season of life will either make or break your journey.

In order to stay committed to your weight loss journey, help yourself get ahead by preparing your weekly meals ahead of time. 

This task will not only help you stay on track with your nutrition, but it will keep you from grabbing a quick bite to eat from a fast food joint. 

If you’re new to meal prep, start off small by preparing your lunches for a couple of days. 

Once you’ve mastered that concept, feel free to increase the number of days or meals as needed.

What are your fitness goals?

Better yet, what inspired you to begin your weight loss journey?

Was it for better health, more endurance, self-confidence, or maybe, fit in old clothes again?

Whatever the reason, it is crucial (and very beneficial) to revisit your why, and keep it at the forefront of your mind in the midst of your busy schedule. 

Thinking about your goals, and how hard you’ve worked towards them, will keep you focused and committed.

And plus, it never feels good to backtrack! 

4. Join an online accountability group

It’s easy for your health to take a back seat when life gets hectic. 

But, what better way is there to stay accountable on your journey than joining an online support group full of like-minded individuals?

Life gets hectic for everyone occasionally, but you don’t have to be on the roller coaster alone. 

Being involved in a group that is positive and uplifting will keep you inspired, motivated, and accountable. 

There is something so rejuventating about seeing other people go after their goals that makes you want to take action and do the same. 

5. Simply persevere (Do your best)

At the end of the day, we are human and can only do our best. 

If your best is exercising 3 days as opposed to 6 days before life got hectic, that’s fine! 

Give yourself a pat on the back for even trying to continue with your weight loss journey. 

Life is hard at times, more hard than usual, but let’s not use it as an excuse to throw in the towel or allow our goals to take a permanent back seat.

  • Great advice. They are all good points but goal checking really resonated with me. My goal was to get my waist size down to a healthy measurement, more than looking good so I was really happy to reach that goal

    • I’m exactly the same. If my workout doesn’t get done before noon, then it won’t happen. That’s good you found what works best for yourself on your journey.

  • Thank you so much for these tips!! I always fail at meal planning. It’s always easier to order takeout but I have to remember that unhealthy takeout isn’t in line with my goals. This is something I absolutely have to work on.

  • I really want to start meal prepping but I usually don’t know what I want until the day of. I don’t want the food I make to go to waste. So, I just meal prep sides like quinoa, chickpeas, and beans!
