3 Things That Sped Up My Weight Loss In One Month

3 Things That Sped Up My Weight Loss In One Month

I’ve been on a quest to lose weight for about a year.

After giving birth to my son in May 2019, I desired to get in the best shape possible.

I cleaned up my eating, I continued to progress my workouts, and I stayed consistent even through those tough moments.

Because of my countless effort, I’ve lost about 45lbs!

Although, I made plenty of progress over the course of a year, the shift I was looking for finally happened over the course of 1 month (May-June).

Within this 1 month, my progress accelerated

I lost many inches, I gained more muscle, more fat disappeared, I toned up, and those lovely compliments about my weight loss were rolling in.

All in all, I’ve been feeling great! (currently knocking on wood, lol)

So...What changed??

While many factors may have contributed to my accelerated progress, there are 3 things I specifically did that I believe are key factors.

1. tracking my fitness

Purchasing a Fitbit was one of the things I debated on for a long time.

It wasn’t just because they are a bit costly, but I kept convincing myself that I didn’t need to know how many calories I burned or the number of steps I took in a day.

I’m not sure what made me change my mind about buying one, but I’m so glad I went ahead and did!

Including this device in my journey has been a GAME CHANGER

I bought my Fitbit Versa Lite in May, and it has encouraged me to move more. The exact one I bought can be found here

Before I decided to step into the fitness watch “dark side”, I thought, for sure, that I was extremely active throughout the day.

I mean, c’mon, I was exercising 5 days a week consistently! Why would I need to move more??

But, boy, was I wrong!

My fitness watch showed me that I was pretty sedentary outside of my daily workouts.

Yes, I burned calories during my workout, but not being intentional about moving more throughout the day only stunted my progress.

Incorporating my Fitbit encouraged the heck out of me to go on daily walks and to be more active overall!

I went from exercising 5 days a week to now exercising 6 days a week, on top of walking my neighborhood almost daily.

2. more weights, please!

Y’all ready for another GAME CHANGER??

Lifting heavier weights has changed my life!

I’ll say it again so you can understand the emphasis;

Lifting heavier weights has CHANGED MY LIFE!

Not only does it help me mentally, but I believe it’s helped me build more muscle and burn more fat throughout May-June.

I’ve always had my barbell, but I didn’t begin using it until May.

Before then, I did lift weights, but it was only 15-20lbs, max.

Currently, I lift 55lbs during my full-body workouts, which is a significant change.

More weights + More muscle = Less Fat!

3. Sleep, Sleep, and More Sleep

Another benefit of my Fitbit is the cool (and extremely helpful) sleep tracker feature.

Before I go in detail on how sleep helped speed up my weight loss, allow me to describe my past sleep quality.

Prior to tracking my sleep, I didn’t pay much attention to it.

I would stay up until midnight, scrolling on social media, knowing I had to wake up with my son at 5 am.

Not only that but the quality of the little sleep I was getting, was very poor.

As a result, I spent my days feeling tired, sore, and moody, while trying to lose weight.

Tracking my sleep habits encouraged me to improve its quality.

I went from getting 5 hours of sleep to over 7 hours of sleep, consistently.

I no longer feel tired throughout the day (which can oftentimes lead to unnecessary snacking and drinking), and getting more sleep helps my muscles recover quicker.

Have you ever heard that sleep is important when it comes to weight loss success?

I encourage you to do research on this topic; the findings are enlightening.

By getting more sleep, I feel more focused, have less urge to snack during the day, and I have the proper energy to exercise harder without the fear of having to take longer rest days due to slowly recovered muscles.

Takeaway

And there you have it, folks!

Adding a fitness tracker into my journey, along with lifting heavier weights and getting more sleep, are the 3 things I strongly believed helped speed up weight loss.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you decide to introduce any of the three into your journey:

  • Research fitness gadgets/products before purchase
  • Don't lift too heavy right out the gate! Start small and work your way up
  • Be patient! What may work someone, may not work for you
